Next-Gen. Is it really next?
I couldn't believe GTA V looked this good, but it does. |
I've pre-ordered a PS4 and in preparation for its arrival, I decided to look at some of the upcoming games coming to the platform. That's when it hit me. I know in time the games will become better looking. But for now, if I'm completely frank. They aren't that impressive. When I say that, I mean in comparison to the top notch 360/PS3 games like: Battlefield and GTA V. They aren't what I was expecting when all of those fanboys and even the developers were describing the look of next gen games.
Maybe I'm being naive but, I think PS3 could handle this. |
I don't think FIFA 14 is going to look like this on Xbox One or PS4. |
I think that for now, people shouldn't really be discussing the power or graphics of the next gen consoles. Rather, I think that we should be focussing on the other capabilities and features of the consoles. Especially if you are still considering which console to purchase, if you are considering them at all.
Let's all be honest. PS4 and Xbox One will have more less identical looking games, some are of course the same. But the point is. For now. Neither of the consoles have any real aesthetically unique games as of yet. That doesn't mean that the games aren't good looking, because they are. What I mean is that, this perceived image that we all thought 'next-gen' was going to be, hasn't quite been realised yet. To be completely honest, I was a little disappointed with the graphics of the Xbox One and PS4 games shown at their reveal conferences. I thought they looked great, but they didn't look the way I thought they would.
WOWZERS IN MY TROUSERS!!! |
I think I might be overthinking this. It's just I feel that so many 'gamers' now just talk about graphics, like gameplay doesn't matter to them. For some people graphics are what makes the game. But I don't see it that way. For me I need to enjoy the game first and the way it's presented is secondary. I will probably come back to this. So expect more on this subject in the future.
Well, those were a few of my thoughts. What are yours? Don't forget to comment.
